Although I have not written many blog posts on this blog of mine, though I tried to write daily blog posts on the other blog of mine i.e. I News India. Other this blog post I posted only 28 blog posts in Tech Acid during this year 2014, which is in fact not that bad too.

Top Discussed Things among Webmasters in 2014

Let us first discussed about some of the most discussed topic amongst webmasters in the year 2014, then we will discuss about SEO trends in the year 2015.

When it comes about webmasters, the mostly discussed things are all about Google and its different algorithms and updates. Although 2014 was a year in which Bing was also in highlight among this community for all the bad reasons. Here are some of the top discussed things among webmasters in 2014:

Matt Cutts

Since last two three years, Matt Cutts the Head of Google’s Webspam Team always remain in highlight in the SEO and webmaster community. Primarily his duty was to announce about the latest updates, this being the reason why everyone in this community was chasing him badly.

2014, though highlighted him, but this time the reason was a bit different. It is assumed that he is on a leave from Google since last few months and he has extended his leaves to the early 2015. It caused heavy chaos in the world of webmasters in year 2014.

Bing and Duane Forrester

As I said above that this year Bing was also featured among the discussions of the webmasters and SEO’s, but for some wrong reasons, and the reason why it was in discussion was firing and again hiring Duane Forrester.

Forrester was asked to leave the organization, but later he has been hired by Microsoft once again and he is still the face of search in Bing.

Duane Forrester was considered as the Matt Cutts of Bing before to this unusual departure from Bing.

Panda and Penguin Updates

Undoubtedly Panda and Penguin updates are now a part of our life. Especially if you are an SEO, you must need to know about them. Both these updates remain in hot discussion throughout the year 2014.

It was assumed that Panda update will provide some relief to those who got affected because of it in 2014, but unfortunately it did not happened that way. Similarly webmasters and SEO’s waited for Penguin update for so long, but honestly did not get much out of it.

Pigeon Update

This year Google came up with yet another algorithm and webmasters named it as Pigeon Update (remember we discussed about it over here), and it was nothing new, an updated algorithm for local searches. It was yet another topic which we webmasters and SEO’s talked about loudly in 2014.

Mobile Searches

Honestly searches on mobile devices are increasing and soon it will overtake the searches made on desktops. It is normally discussed this year that why should we go for either responsive design or mobile friendly website. We too discussed about it in different blogs, though the important one were SEO benefits of responsive web design and be ready to face Google Penalty for non-mobile-friendly websites.

It is in fact true that mobile searches are growing beyond the desktop search and those who are not yet focusing on it, should start thinking about it seriously.

Social Growth

Social media and your growth over there became the hot topic like last year only in this year 2014 too. It is undoubtedly true that with the mass reach, social media soon became one of the most reliable and fast growing traffic source. Some of the sites utilized it badly and start getting huge traffics on them.

Engaging Traffic

Only getting the traffic on your website was not the ultimate target of every webmasters this year. As per the discussions among webmasters engaging traffic on your website became the hot topic during the year.

Knowledge Graph

Honestly knowledge graph and quick answers too featured among the discussions in the webmasters community this year.

Devaluing Links

Although Google first announced about Disavow Links Tool in the year 2012 only, but it came into limelight since last year only. Honestly 2014 was the year when webmasters started devaluing links to their websites. It was like disavowing negative links to their website so that Google should not penalize them.

Secure Website

It was the month of August 2014 when Google start emphasizing on secure websites, thus SSL, and HTTPS became the hot topic this year. Although as I suggested waiting and watching that time, I can now say that there is no need to be panic about such things for the moment.

So those were some of the prominent SEO topics which we and other webmasters, and SEO’s, discussed in the year 2014.

SEO Trends 2015

As I mentioned above as well that mobile searches are seriously growing, so if you want to ask me about any special tips about the SEO trends 2015, then I would suggest everyone to make their website mobile friendly only. Responsive designs and mobile friendly sites get the much needed attention throughout the year 2014 and suppose to stay in limelight in the coming year as well.

Other than mobile friendly website, you must need to seriously think about the loading time and bounce rate of your website. Loading time seriously means thinking about faster web hosting for your site and bounce rate means developing engaging content on your website.

Other than these two some Meta Tags like Title, Description and Canonical tags become the most important things for the year 2015.

And yes don’t forget about header tags like H1, H2, H3, etc.

You can also read my blog on SEO Trends 2015 and you can be able to understand some of my SEO predictions for the coming year. And most importantly don’t be a victim of negative SEO for your website, always remain alert and protect your website from such things.

Hope the year 2014 remain good for you, and we wishes Happy New Year and best wishes to you all for the new year 2015. Hope you should get all the health, wealth and prosperity in the year ahead.
