Very soon you will be able to power up your laptops and cell phones without plugging them into an electrical socket by a new technique, Wireless Power Transmission. Intel has tested wireless power transmission which is becoming more viable.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers, Intel Corp. on Thursday demonstrated how to make a 60-watt light bulb glow from an energy source 3 feet away. The efficiency is quite high of about 75 per cent losing only a quarter of the energy the researchers started with.

“That to me is the most striking part about it — transmitting 60 watts at 75 percent efficiency over several feet,” Intel’s chief technology officer, Justin Rattner, said in an interview.

“The power pack for your laptop isn’t that efficient … it’s one of those things that are almost too good to be true.”

Researchers working on the concept for a decade get some success over their efforts. But it needs a long way to go before coming in market. Wireless transmission is based on basic physics that electric coils resonating at the same frequency can transmit energy to each other at a distance. In both the MIT and the Intel work, researchers used charging coils far too large for wide-scale use. One of the big challenges in transmitting wireless power is preventing too much energy from escaping while in transit.

Even so, Rattner said Intel is in the early stages of trying to modify a laptop to accept wireless power. One challenge is figuring out how to prevent the electromagnetic field from interfering with the computer’s other parts, he said.

You will be able to attach a large transmitter to a wall — or even bury it inside the wall — and plant many smaller receivers inside nearby tables and chairs and other pieces of furniture, creating the ultimate in recharging convenience.

MIT physics professor Marin Soljacic told that researchers have many new ideas to implement the technology including the possibility of wirelessly powering pacemakers and artificial hearts.

The MIT researchers call the technology “WiTricity,” a combination of “wireless” and “electricity,”. Earlier, they had lit their bulb from 7 feet away with larger charging coils and between 40 percent to 45 percent efficiency. But when the distance is reduced to 3 feet, efficiency was 90 per cent that is much better than the Intel demo.

There is a new development speech tool for those with disabilities or repetitive strain injury to use Mouse as Nuance Communications released Dragon Naturally Speaking 9, a new version of PC-based speech-recognition technology which is 20% more accurate than its version 8.

The new version is in development for the last 2 years. It is more accurate than its earlier version and hence provides a better tool to write on PC through speech. According to the company, the new version have 99% dictation accuracy which will help people with disabilities or strain injury to voice their PC commands instead of using a Mouse.

“People who tried it three, four, five years ago will notice massive improvements,” said Matt Revis, Nuance’s director of product management for dictation solutions.

One more good point is that people can begin using the speech software without training the program to understand their voice. Instead, the software will learn as it goes.

“Within several uses, the software catches up. It learns as you correct it.”

Nuance’s update comes as Microsoft tests its own speech recognition technology, which the software giant plans to offer at no charge within its new operating system, Vista.

Microsoft is also concerned for accuracy of the program. It recognizes confusing words like “cake” from “bake” according to the context of the sentence. Along with, it is also working on providing an interactive user interface so it’s easier for average people to command the software to fix errors or to switch applications.

Microsoft’s Chambers said, “At one point in the future, we believe that the speech recognizer will be more accurate than a human is. We already do that in numerical digits.”

“The technology is really becoming more mature. The accuracy continues to improve at an exponential rate,” Microsoft software architect Rob Chambers said.

Speech recognition needs accuracy and it is hard to implement. External noise, speakers high pitch voice are some of the common factors that can affect the program’s reception of the speaker’s voice and cause it to misinterpret language. For highest accuracy the software must learn the nuances of an individual’s speech patterns.

Internet is the common need for every task all over the world from large metropolitan cities to small towns. Internet presence is the need of the hour. New websites are developing every second for variety of reasons. Basically the main reason behind developing a site is to make money via ad programs incorporated into the sites. People make their own sites and integrate ads on them to earn money through them.

As a site owner, you need to constantly be in the know about your website’s earning potential via advertising opportunities, affiliate programs as well as miscellaneous third party advertisers and for this you need to enlist help from a web entity that will tell you the value of your site.

There are many factors which are responsible to value your website. It’s tricky to find the value of a site. There are many free sites available on internet which provides this help to you. But are they trustworthy? Do their estimates are correct or near to correct??

Consider http://www.websitevaluecalculator.com/. It is one of the sites which calculate value of the websites. Let’s have a look on the results for www.google.com. It comes out to be worth $1,561,822,935. Now go for google.com. It is worth $742,166,748. So what you will say? How can one believe on these tools available on internet?

Not all the sites are like this. Few of them are reliable. One of the best-known free valuation sites is dnScoop. dnScoop asks for no more information than your domain name.

There are so many sites which may boast about highly accurate website valuation. A perfect website valuations tool can help you to insight your website value. eBizValuations.com. is another reliable site which provide this help to you.

Google has launched a new search tool- Google Insights for Search for advertisers and marketers to understand search behavior. The new tool tracks a particular search term’s popularity across the Web and geographic regions of the world.

The tool allows the user to just type the keyword in the search term to see search volume patterns over time, as well as the top related and rising searches. Also, it provides the way to compare the search volume trends across multiple search terms, categories, geographic regions, or specific time ranges.

It is like an Add-on to Google trends. With Google Insights for Search, it can be analyzed that how much a term has been googled over time, where on a “heat map” it’s most popular, and what the top “related” and “rising” searches for the term are.

Filtration is provided to narrow the search area. Result can also be filtered by Geographic region, time frame, or category. The search results can be downloaded after signing in Google account. The output can be compared by keywords, locations and time ranges.

It gives a better view of output and an easy searching over the wide network. Searches according to our interest and avoid needless outputs.

With time, there is a gradual change in network connections and speed provided by the Service providers. Communication is getting fast from an earlier slow speed of 256Kbps to a high speed 3G broadband network of today. One more name added to high speed wireless broadband is iphone with 3G.

The new iphone is able to connect to the 3G network.  The new gadget provides HSDPA, which has a theoretical download speed of between 400 and 700 Kbps, though Apple on it site says it’s going to be 2.4x the speed of EDGE - about 100 Kbps. A 3G connection on a non-computer device actually feels like a broadband connection.

”The immediacy of the data at your fingertips is huge. Imagine, looking up anything, anywhere.”

The speed is no doubt very fast and is quite addictive. It is perfect to avoid your computer for daily tasks as the device is giving a perfect service for your work. The main reasons why Truphone’s new iPhone app can be your proffered tool are:

-High speed to access web.
-A generous screen to display the content.
-Easy to use and handle.
-It has a more than adequate browser, making it an ideal candidate for being a “cloud client.”
-easy to place VoIP calls on the iPhone
.

The iphone provides the best service for internet surfing. The blogs, email and other sites can be surfed easily and quickly. The mails can be checked as speedly as on the desktop. Facebook on the iPhone is almost infinitely more usable than its web counterpart. (John Markoff is marveling at the pocket-sized experience as well.) Also it makes it easy to place VoIP calls on the iPhone, thereby making it less necessary to fire up the old computer to call anyone.

The only negative point is lack of a fast-enough connection that helped “off-source” some tasks from their computers.

The new tool is going to give more stress over AT&ts 3G network as people will find the device more beneficial for their work and more and more people will connect to the network with time. We hope that the iPhone will be a revolution in the field of technology.

What if a computer can be available at $12? A new project is under processing which will launch the cheapest called computer organized by a group of MIT graduates and current students, According to a Boston Herald article, the price will be $12.

It will be good news to those who are unable to invest big money in buying a computer or laptop. Although computer prices are drop to large extent since its invention, but still it is a big investment for many people especially of developing countries.

The computer will be based on Apple II architecture which the Indians plug into their TV. The goal is to upgrade these boxes with Internet access via cell phone tethering and to add on-board storage to allow for the saving of programs and other data. The team has already contacted Apple II enthusiasts to program for the machines.

While upgrading antiquated hardware might not seem very useful of an idea to folks who quad-core CPUs running in excess of 2GHz, the student team is thinking that, if the technology was good enough for them to learn how to type and learn basic computer skills on, it will work for the rest of the world.

Introduced in 1977, the Apple II was engineered by Steve Wozniak who is tagged by the father of personal computing by some people. The machine ran a MOS Technology 6502 processor that ran at 1MHz with a 12kB ROM.

The exact cost of the computer is not known at present but it is expected to be a fair price. The news of research for a laptop at $100 is in air for some time. The team pointed out that for the price of one laptop, a school could fill a computer lab with ten of these machines. This directly means an affordable price tag on this upcoming machine.

What is meant by 3G?

3G, abbreviated for third-generation mobile telephony services, is set to revolutionize mobile phone services in India and take it to the next technological level. This new technology will provide a high-speed mobile connectivity in the country.

Currently mobile phones work on 2G or 2.5G, and use 30-200 KHz bandwidth. But the future 3G phones will work in higher bandwidths of 15-20 MHz. Hence it will provide a greater capacity and efficiency than the current 2G systems. 3G will able to support high-speed broadband internet access on the mobile, interactive gaming and download movies, video clips and music along with “triple play” features like mobile TV and converged communication services like video conferencing.

Using 3G technology, you can download a 3-minute song in approximately 15 seconds compared to around 8 minutes required in existing mobile technologies. The most interesting & useful aspect of 3G wireless technology is its ability to unify existing cellular standards such as GSM, CDMA and TDMA.

While the state-run telecom companies, MTNL and BSNL have said that they will launch 3G services within six months (starting from North and East zones), private service providers may take longer.

3G will allow operators to enhance their capacities for voice traffic as well. It will be beneficial for the key operators who are facing severe 2G spectrum crunch in top 20-30 cities which is hampering their future growth. As the government has indicated that it has limited spectrum left for 2G services.

But this new technology can cost more to your pocket. You may need to upgrade your handset to switch from 2G to 3G. The starting price for a 3G-enabled handset is about Rs 6,000, compared to an entry-level phone of Rs 700.  Presently, about 15-20 per cent of the mobile phones in India are 3G-ready. Motorola currently has three 3G models priced between Rs 14,000-19,000.

However, operators have reportedly said that they will make 3G affordable in a price-sensitive market like India. According to reports, a 3G start-up package could cost users around Rs 299. This may jack up for unlimited downloading which may cost between Rs 500-1000.

Also subscribers, after switching from the normal 2G to 3G services, saw a 50 % jump in their monthly phone bills.

However, now with 3G services only six months away, mobile phone makers are reportedly ready to offer handsets for as less as Rs 3500. Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies is said to be in talks with Indian GSM operators to introduce a 3G entry-level phone between $80-100.

On August 1, 2008, India joined the elite list of countries to announce a policy for third generation mobile service that will enable customers to enjoy voice, video, data and downloading facilities on their mobile phones.

Hence, 3G technology is ready to rock in India in the coming year. It marks the evolution in communication and mobile telephony and will provide a big change to the users.

NASA’s mission Phoenix Mars Lander has discovered water on Mars land and put strong chances of life on the planet. Scientists confirmed the news on Thursday saying that they had definitive proof that water exists on Mars after further tests on ice found on the planet in June by the Phoenix Mars Lander.

“We’ve seen evidence for this water ice before in observations by the Mars Odyssey orbiter and in disappearing chunks observed by Phoenix last month, but this is the first time Martian water has been touched and tasted,” said William Boynton, lead scientist for the Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer instrument on Phoenix.

Phoenix, which was landed on Mars in May to discover the presence of water, the most important ingredient for life sampled  ice which were seen melting away in photographs taken by the Lander’s instruments in June.

Expecting some more useful information about sustaining life on red planet the Phoenix mission was extended by 5 more weeks the otherwise three month scheduled mission.

“We are extending the mission through September 30. The extension will add about $2 million to the $420 million cost of landing Phoenix on May 25 for what was a scheduled three-month mission” said Michael Meyer, chief scientist for NASA’s Mars exploration program.

Boynton said that after the Lander’s robotic arm delivered a soil sample on Wednesday to an instrument, presence of water was confirmed by vapors produced by heating.

“We are moving towards understanding whether there were or could be places on Mars that are habitable,” said NASA scientists, who described the findings as a “huge step forward.”

Technology is showing a gradual trend of change with time. New tools and techniques are invented daily which give rise to new technologies. Background knowledge has enabled people to create new things. Technology has totally changed our life. With the invention of wheels, people started traveling and with the advancement of technology human has made a lot of other fast track vehicles. Recently a new train service at a speed of 350 Km/hr is started in China. The new technologies at present are sufficient lo leave the Earth and reach Moon and Mars.

With continuous change in technology from Stone Age, we have reached the modern world of computer and internet which has totally changed our lives. Human is still searching new methods and technology to further changes in life.

All the facilities are available to us. Pressing a single button is enough to do routine activities. Man is now totally dependent on technology. Every work needs machines and Mobiles devices are providing technology is in our hands today. Mobile phones are not only to talk but a lot other facilities are there with this small device. From internet access to map locations all over the world, everything can be there on your set.

Man has defeated nature. Weather forecast made possible to avert the natural disasters and to follow precautionary measures. Nature resistant homes and cars are produced. Recent reports said that China scientists are engaged in averting possible rain during the grand opening ceremony of Olympics starting on 8/8/8. They are making rockets to blow rain clouds. This is enough to understand the power of technology which has defeated nature also.

The 19th century saw astonishing developments in transportation, construction, and communication technologies originating in Europe, especially in Britain. The Steam Engine which had existed since the early 18th century, was practically applied to both steamboat and railway transportation. Other technologies were explored for the first time, including the Incandescent light bulb.

In 20th Century, technology developed rapidly. Communication technology, transportation technology, broad teaching and implementation of Scientific method, and increased research spending all contributed to the advancement of modern science and technology. During this century, radio, radar, and early sound recording were key technologies which paved the way for the telephone, fax machine, and magnetic storage of data.

Energy and engine technology improvements were also vast, including nuclear power, developed after the Manhattan project. Making use of computers and advanced research labs, modern scientists have Recombinant DNA.

In 21st century, technology is being developed even more rapidly. All fields of science and technology are showing marked progress. Computer has speeded the technology. After the physical barriers of the integrated circuit are reached, quantum computers might be introduced. This could pave the way to the simulation of biological brains and/or the storage thereof.

Ongoing developments include research into bioengineering, nuclear fusion, nanotechnology, alternative fuel technologies, the scramjet (along with rail guns and high-energy beams for military uses), superconductivity etc.

Researchers are trying to improve the efficiencies of LEDs and solar cells. Space science is also showing a marked improvement. Spacecraft designs are also improving. Recently Phoenix mission of NASA has discovered water on Mars arising strong possibilities of life on other planets.

In short, technology is changing gradually and with this our lifestyle is also showing a steep change towards improvement. Everything is getting automatic. Technology is providing power to our hands.
